This year on sports day we decided to measure and time the winning track and field events for each year group. Every child has the opportunity to participate in sports day and they are all celebrated for their contribution. However, it was felt that by establishing a school record system, we would be able to acknowledge both individual achievement and at the same time give future athletes at the school challenge to aspire to.

YEAR 5&6 NETBALL & FOOTBALL TOURNAMENTS
On Wednesday 25th March both the netball and football teams played in the local tournament, held at Blandford School. The weather conditions were not ideal, high winds and quite bitter, but yet again the year 5 and 6 boys and girls played with enthusiasm and drive. Each tournament involved playing in 7 matches against other local schools. Both the football and netball teams only lost one game a piece.
Overall, our football team were placed 3rd and the netballers 2nd. Well done to all those involved, what a great team effort.

FOOTBALL FESTIVAL
Last week eight boys and one girl from years 3 and 4 were invited to attend a football festival at Blandford School.
There was an opportunity to develop their fitness and skills through specific drills.
The children then were expected to put what they learnt into practice, in a match situation. The children played 5 matches, against some tough opposition. We put in some fantastic performances, demonstrating not only some crafty footwork and accurate passing but also some real team work. This is not always so evident within this age group, so all that break time playing pays dividends! We won 4 out of our 5 games, but more pleasing than that, 2 of our team were given recognition for their sportsmanship. Well done, everyone, you were fantastic in every respect.

YEAR 3 & 4 NETBALL FESTIVAL
Last week some our year 3 and 4 netballers enjoyed participating in a festival at Blandford High School. The aim of the event was to develop the children's skills and give them an opportunity to play the high fives game against other local schools. Blandford St Marys performed brilliantly on court, winning 3 out of their 5 games and the progression they made was clearly evident. Furthermore, the children were wonderful ambassadors for the school, polite, well behaved, enthusiastic and sportsmanly. A great afternoon, well done.
